Champaign and Urbana school districts have released tentative plans for fall

The newest stressful phase of this pandemic is the questions of schools opening. Districts are just beginning to release tentative plans for going back to school; Champaign Unit 4 and Urbana District 116 announced theirs last week. Both are trying to balance bringing kids and teachers back for in-person learning, while attempting to minimize risk, which is a monstrous task. One thing is certain, school will not be normal in any sort of way this year.

You can read Urbana’s plans here and Champaign’s plans here.

The Unit 4 school board is meeting tonight at the Mellon Building, and these plans will be discussed but no official action is expected to be taken. Those wanting to make a public comment can do so in person, but you will be expected to maintain distance and wear a mask. You are encouraged to submit public comment over email because of limited space. Public comments will begin at 7 p.m. The meeting can be viewed on CGTV beginning at 6 p.m. CGTV is available on Comcast channel 5, i3 Broadband channel 5, AT&T U-verse channel 99, or via a live video stream. CGTV programming is also available for on-demand viewing.
