Champaign County Treasurer is an elected position for the County Board, which as per the CB’s website “directs financial planning, collection/distribution, procurement, and investment of funds for Champaign County” through a variety of duties and responsibilities outlined here. There’s a lot more to being the Treasurer than some might think, as sometimes in my brain it gets boiled down to “the person who helps figure out where to put the money”, which is, you know, quite laymen and unacceptable. The Treasurer serves as both the Treasurer and the Collector.
Cassandra “CJ” Johnson is the Democrat and Ted Myhre is the Republican, and they are running for the position previously occupied by Marisol Hughes.
Johnson is from New York and previously worked at the United States Air Force (at home and abroad), which began with her enlisting at age 17. She has a long history of strategic planning and financial management, which you can read about here.
From CJ Johnson’s Facebook page:
I see the Treasurer’s office as a way to showcase how to manage processes effectively, while continuing to build on ways to make the community’s money work better for us. The challenges of the office are manageable but it will take time, dedication, and planning. I’ve already began the process of learning what needs to be corrected and am fully committed to doing what is necessary to be a true steward of our county’s money in the same manner I did with our country’s money. My retirement from the military gave us the opportunity to come here and relax, my online studies through the University of Southern California (FIGHT ON!) gave me the opportunity to choose were we lived, but my inability to sit by idly and watch my community deal with problems that I’m well-equipped to deal handle for us is why I am the only real choice for this position. So on November 3rd, vote the person who commits to the community they call home because they believe in bringing everyone up to make our community better, regardless of whether we agree on other issues
Myhre grew up between Philo and Tolono, and after college, joined the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Devision, later serving in the Illinois National Guard out of Champaign. His work background spans from working in schools to the private sector. You can read all about his story here.
From Ted Myhre’s Facebook page:
Local. Experienced. Ready to lead. The Treasurer’s Office needs a leader like Ted Myhre. Ted will develop an office striving toward excellence, improving business processes, and acting upon stakeholder feedback.
