UPTV Wins Regional Awards
The City of Urbana is pleased to announce Urbana Public Television will receive two awards at the 9th Annual Best of the Midwest Media Fest and Awards Show. The show recognizes the best community access television programs in the Midwest.
WPGU’s Illini Drive will be recognized for the video production of the March 4, 2020 show. Illini Drive airs Monday through Thursday evening at 6 p.m. on WGPU 107.1FM. A video version of the show is recorded for later cablecast on UPTV. The show from March 4th was hosted by University of Illinois students Nathan DeHaan, Jake Hasan, Alex Aguilera, and Brendyn Jones.
“Our relationships with community organizations such as WPGU are so valuable. This partnership continues to grow every year. I was very pleased to learn the students will be recognized on a regional level for their work on this show. They do a great job,” commented UPTV Station Manager, Jason Liggett.
Elizabeth Hess and Champaign-Urbana Public Health District Administrator Julie Pryde will receive a Significant Community Program Award for their weekly interview segment on the COVID-19 pandemic.
“When this program started I never expected it to last an entire year. Julie Pryde has always been a great asset to this community, but it has never been more evident than in the past year. Elizabeth asked the questions everyone else was thinking and I can’t imagine these interviews being more informative,” commented Liggett.
The Media Fest and Awards Show will take place virtually on Thursday, May 27th.
