There are two new outdoor public seating areas in Downtown Urbana right on the curb of Main Street called Curbanas. These enclosed seating areas are made on a raised deck structure next to the sidewalk.

The idea for Curbanas started in 2014, and the City of Urbana has decided to bring it back for the summer of 2021. Built by artist Jorge Pena, these new Curbanas have a style that is fresh and inviting which fits with Pena’s design philosophy to provide aesthetically beautiful as well as functional installations. Pena says, “I am so happy to contribute to Downtown Urbana and to give the people of Urbana a place to come together and enjoy this beautiful city. I believe that when people share space with their neighbors, it makes a stronger community.”

The Curbanas use a few street parking spaces, but there is parking available in the public parking garage at 111 West Main Street. When I parked before lunch yesterday, it was only a quarter for one hour.

These look like the perfect picnic spot if you want to take your food to go but not go home.
