Chisel’s full-length debut is set to drop tomorrow, but lucky show-goers will be able to get their hands on it a night early. Noah Harris opens up at 7:30 p.m., Joshua James is on at 8:15 and Cory Chisel and The Wandering Sons premiere their new album at 9:15.
Chisel’s fast guitar fingers and smooth, crooning voice is just the thing to pick up your Monday blues.
What: Oso Closo
When: Tuesday, Sept. 29
Where: The Iron Post
These Texas natives will fit in just fine playing at The Iron Post. Their talented instrumentation and souful vocals deserve an intimate, respectful crowd.
Oso Closo’s sound is a bizarre mix of prog, soundtrack and classic rock. It’s intriguing, to say the least. The tantamount talent and effort of this group will show through in a delightful live show.
What: Digital Primitives
When: Wednesday, Sept. 30
Where: Independent Media Center
“Progressive jazz” is not normally a term thrown around the musical world. This unknown genre has been explored to the nth degree of experimentation by the Digital Primitives.
They cover every instrument including (but not limited to) the mouth bow, diddley bo, bass clarinet, mbira and a variety of hand-crafted instruments. A show like this is only likely to come around once in a blue moon, so see them while you can.
What: My Dear Alan Andrews w/ The Ben Miller Band, Jaik Willis and The Corn Desert Ramblers
When: Thursday, Oct. 1 @ 9 p.m.
Where: Canopy Club; $7 in advance
Off the high of this weekend’s Folk and Roots Fetival, folk fever is running rampant in C-U. Exhibit A: My Dear Alan Andrews. The gentle guitar, harmonica and vocals will woo you over by the end of the first song. Their album Ethos is on sale for a measley five bucks, and it’s well worth the pocket change. Their show will blend well with the newly crisp fall weather, and the opening numbers will also have you ready for cider and a campfire.
What: Vertebrats Reunion
When: Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday, Oct. 3
Where: Cowboy Monkey (Friday), The Highdive (Saturday)
The pinnacle of garage rock is back for a double whammy reunion show this weekend. Although Friday night is completely sold out at Cowboy Monkey, tickets are still available for Saturday night’s show. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Vertebrats, and everyone should come bearing pearls for the event.
