WHAT: Paper Lantern, Morgan Orion
WHERE: The Clark Bar (free)
WHEN: Tuesday, July 10th at 7 p.m.

WHAT: Dino Bravo, Marathon, Jeremiah Fisher, Ood Ood Ood
WHERE: The Highdive ($5)
WHEN: Wednesday, July 11th at 9 p.m.
Chug-rockers Dino Bravo hit The Highdive with a couple other locals, Marathon and Jeremiah Fisher, and are joined by Ood Ood Ood from Freeburg, IL for this one. WHAT: Tristen, Mille Nomi
WHERE: Mike ‘N Molly’s ($5)
WHEN: Thursday, July 12th at 9 p.m.
Nashville’s Tristen has been touring all over the U.S. and makes her way through the middle of it to C-U. Her acoustic-folk is fairly charming, so this one wouldn’t be a bad way to spend a night in the beer garden this week. Locals Mille Nomi is a fairly new project to emerge here in town and features a member of Finer Feelings as well.

WHAT: Horrible Things, Self Proclaimed Narcissist, Dogbreth, Hospital Job
WHERE: Red Herring ($5)
WHEN: Thursday, July 12th at 10 p.m.
Punk crew Horrible Things released an album earlier this year so they’re playing some shows to give those some time in the live setting. Got a couple of west coast bands in Self Proclaimed Narcissist (Oregon) and Dogbreth (Arizona) on this one and rounded out by a Horrible Things side project Hospital Job.

WHAT: Alta, Arizona Wilder, Enta
WHERE: The Highdive ($5)
WHEN: Friday, July 13th at 9 p.m.
Wisconsin groups Alta and Arizona Wilder released a split together not too long ago which you can stream below. Enta played a few weeks back at Red Herring, so this is another chance to catch them if you didn’t get out to their last show.

WHAT: Central Illinois Metalfest
WHERE: Canopy Club ($30)
WHEN: Friday, July 13th at 4 p.m. and Saturday, July 14th at 12:45 p.m.
Metal, metal, and more metal. Twenty-six bands total on this year’s bill for Central Illinois Metalfest, which happens most of the day on Friday and all day Saturday over in Urbana at Canopy Club. EDITOR’S PICK: WOODY GUTHRIE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
Mike ‘N Molly’s ($8) — Saturday, July 14th at 8 p.m.
Here we are, three shows into the Smile Politely Show Series and we’re proud to be presenting this one at Mike ‘N Molly’s on Saturday night. The CU Folk & Roots Festival has lined up a whole slew of local singer-songwriters to celebrate one of the best songwriters of all time in Woody Guthrie. He would be 100 years old on Saturday, so head over there to celebrate some classic tunes the musicians will be covering throughout the evening. We’ll be giving away tickets as well, so keep your eyes on the SPlog and our Facebook & Twitter.
We’ll have a full preview of what you can expect at the show to run later in the week, but for now you can check out the Facebook event (linked above) and the lineup of artists slated to play: Jeff Arrigo, Edward Burch, Ane Clements, John Coppess, William Dicker, Kevin Elliott, Mike Feldman, John Hoeffleur, Kirby Jayes, Justin Kessel, Rick Kubetz & Terry Bush, Michael Meadows, Cullyn Murphy, Margaret O’Brien, Emily Otnes, Justin Rondon, Gloria Roubal, Cliff Stoker.
