Withershins call to mind lots of different bands, but really no one in particular. Could they be described as a more focused version of shoegaze? A slighter version of Catherine Wheel? Sure why not. Definitely impressive guitars in a little bit of a haze. Definitely vocals that sometimes veer Braid.
The band is currently hard at work on a new EP that they hope to release this June. In the mean time, they’ll be playing a couple of local shows over the next week. Drummer Colin Larson was kind enough to give us his local lowdown.
Favorite C-U band past or present
Shipwreck — When I first moved to town, this was one of the first local shows I saw. In fact I really wish Harman would get another band going. His songs have a great dark awkward cool vibe that I really like.
Favorite C-U venue
Courtyard Cafe — My day job is a sound guy, so I’ve seen/worked in a good variety of venues now. The Courtyard has a great combination of little things going for it that just make it one of the better places to see a show around here. Although Mike n’ Molly’s beergarden on a warm night is pretty hard to beat…
Favorite C-U entree, dessert or drink
Russel Burger from Farren’s — I think if I ever move, Farren’s will be the food I miss the most. Although Urbana is striking back with Black Dog…
Favorite album of all time (does not have to be from C-U)
Right now it’s mclusky.
