Local musician Matt Turino manages to keep himself pretty busy playing many different instruments in Big Grove Zydeco, The Mean Lids and many other musical outlets.
Favorite C-U band, past or present
I don’t know if I can really answer that one very easily. I love dancing, so all the dance-able bands around town. Bruiser and the Virtues, New Orleans Jazz Machine, Beat Kitchen all have serious soft spots in my heart. There are many many other I love to go out and see but these are definitely some of the best around town as far as I’m concerned.
Favorite C-U venue
This one is easier. I would definitely have to go with The Iron Post. They have all sorts of music, all the time. You can rely on Paul to have a great line up any given night, it might not be a kind of music you like, but it will be quality!
Favorite C-U entree, dessert or drink
Alright favorite entree would have to be the Dahl Mahkani from Bombay Grill, and for desert good ole Custard Cup vanilla custard.
Favorite album of all time (does not have to be from C-U)
I don’t think I have one, I don’t have a long enough attention span for a favorite of all time. Right now my favorite album is probably La Bibournoise by a band called Genticorum out of Montreal.
Why readers should come see your shows this weekend
Well the two shows happening this weekend are quite different, Saturday night is Big Grove Zydeco and is a great band if you want to dance around a whole lot or if you want to hear a big rockin’ band. Sunday night (The Mean Lids) will be a night full of acoustic fiddle and flute music with guitar and feet for accompaniment, and you will get a range of music ranging from kickin’ celtic tunes, to old country songs and some original music in between, much mellower kind of night but good all the same (or so we hope).
Big Grove Zydeco plays Saturday night (April 24) at the Iron Post (9:30 p.m. $3) and The Mean Lids perform Sunday night (April 25 at the Iron Post (7:30 p.m. $3).
