WHAT: The Andreas Kapsalis & Goran Ivanovic Guitar Duo
WHERE: The Iron Post ($6)
WHEN: Wednesday, June 16 at 7 p.m.
Andreas Kapsalis is billed as a “steel string ten finger tapping guitar prodigy.” At this performance, he’s paired his magical fngers with classical guitarist Goran Ivanovic and they take on modern, classical, world, jazz and more. Should be a interesting and educational evening for shredders of all ages, talent and musical taste. And if you are interested, you should check out their impressive YouTube videos.
WHAT: The Saps, The Curses, The Fresh Kills
WHERE: Mike ‘n Molly’s ($5)
WHEN: Friday June 18 at 8 p.m.
Chicago band the Saps have been playing together since 1998 and are currently touring in support of their new punk country pop EP Burning Brigades. The Curses are a wonderful live act that harken back to older eras. And lately we’ve written often about local punks the Fresh Kills, who keep chugging along after releasing the well-regarded new album Turn Up the Brilliance.
WHAT: Jace Everett, Caleb Cook
WHERE: Canopy Club ($8 in advance )
WHEN: Saturday, June 19 at 7 p.m.
Jace Everett is a country musician and songwriter who’s been releasing albums since 2005. However, these days he’s probably best known for his song “Bad Things” which is the theme song to the vampire soap sex show, True Blood. I’m guessing he’ll play that one, but also a lot of cuts from his newest album, Red Revelations.
WHAT: V. Picasso Benefit show for Ashley Ames
WHERE: V. Picasso ($5)
WHEN: Saturday, June 19 at 10 p.m.
The Curses, Colin Taylor, Duke of Uke & His Novelty Orchestra, the Palace Flophouse and more will perform at this benefit show for Ashley Ames. Ashley is the woman who was severely burned in a recent Urbana house fire and didn’t have any medical coverage. In addition to 100% of the cover charge, 10% of all alcohol and late night menu sales after 10pm will be going to Ashley’s fund. A good night of music for a great cause.
Remember that if you are playing, promoting, hosting, attending a show, you can add it to our events calendar.
