Wrapping up the Cover Up

Yet another Cover Up has come and gone. Curiously low ridiculous costume quotient aside, I can’t think of a single thing that wasn’t perfect about the event — every single band nailed it, one hundred percent. Brother Embassy ran away (as usual) with the best costume award, Jet W. Lee and Withershins both sounded alarmingly similar to the bands they covered, and Roberta Sparrow, aided by a dozen or so crowd members, nearly destroyed the stage. Many of the groups broke out expanded ensembles — Scurvine added Tim Lash, Stan and Vivian McConnell were joined by their father Bruce, and Hot Cops swelled up to seven members. In addition, Hathaways debuted their expanded lineup, which features John Hoeffleur, Rory Grennan and Brendan Gamble. Proceeds from the event went to WEFT. While the Fresh Kills as Operation Ivy and Kayla and the Dirty Feathers as Yeah Yeah Yeahs get my personal vote for best in show, I’m sure many of you will disagree. So, check out the videos below, generously uploaded by the folks from Withnail (with the exception of Curb Service and Kayla Brown shredding “Empire State of Mind”, filmed by Harsh).
