EDITOR’S PICK: THE DODOS, COUSINS
The Highdive ($15 advance/$17 door) — Friday, September 20th at 7:30 p.m.

In a week that has a couple of really great touring indie rock bands coming through town (this one, and Sunday’s Titus Andronicus show), the Dodos get the edge for this week’s Editor’s Pick. The outfit last made a stop through C-U for 2011’s installment of Pygmalion Music Festival, where they put on one of the best shows of the entire festival at the Channing Murray Foundation. It was packed, sweaty and hot, but damn, was it a great show. They have a new record out entitled Carrier, released on Champaign’s own Polyvinyl Records. It’s good, as is their entire catalog. Friday night, this is the show to be at, no doubt.

Another stellar show happening this weekend is over at the Canopy Club with Patrick Stickles & co.: Titus Andronicus. They were last here in Champaign-Urbana for Pygmalion 2008. They’re coming through in support of their latest album, Local Business, out last year on XL. Their short-yet-sweet catalog is stapled by the incredible The Monitor from a couple of years ago, and if you’re unfamiliar. please do yourself a favor and listen to all three (those two, and The Airing of Grievances), and go to this show.
