WHAT: Santah, Army Navy
WHERE: Courtyard Cafe ($5)
WHEN: Thursday, October 6th at 8:00 p.m.
Hey look, the Courtyard still almost exists as a performance space. Despite it’s negative aspects (occasionally poor sound and womb-cavern atmosphere), it killed me to see the one really good all ages venue in town get guillotined after a semester in which they hosted Maserati, the Mountain Goats, and the Hold Steady in the space of less than three weeks.
WHAT: Wild Flag, Yellow Fever
WHERE: Highdive ($15 advance)
WHEN: Friday, October 7th at 7:00 p.m.
This one caught my eye immediately when it was announced a few months back — how could it not? Featuring two-thirds of the departed Sleater-Kinney, inarguably one of the loudest bands I have ever heard in my life, this is sure to be an earplugs recommended show.
WHAT: New Ruins, Psychic Twin, Alpha Mile
WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($7)
WHEN: Saturday, October 8th at 10:00 p.m.
CD release show A big one. If you haven’t picked up This Life is Not Ours to Keep yet, get on that shit. It’s a huge ante-up for both the band and the rest of the scene. If you’re like me and consider the fact that there was never a second Glifted album to be a crime against humanity, show up early for Alpha Mile, Tim Lash’s new band.
WHAT: Those Darlins, Peelander-Z, The Dirty Feathers
WHERE: Highdive ($12)
WHEN: Sunday, October 9th at 7:00 p.m.
The crux of why Those Darlins are so great has always been their punk energy and huge stage presence. which is obviously why they’re touring with Peelander-Z, who look totally insane. A “japanese super-action comic band” who claim to come from another planet use audience participation as an integral part of their live show sounds pretty sweet to me. Plus, how cool is it that the Dirty Feathers are opening?
