Last Friday night, Davina and The Vegabonds rocked the University of Illinois Research Park with their tunes from the past and theatrical stage presence. There was a substantial crowd that attended Research Park’s first OUTSIDE concert installment along with 4-5 local vendors, a bar, and public restrooms. People of all ages came and enjoyed BOYB, dancing, music, and local participation.
The show was energetic and charming. It had just enough grit to satisfy the adult in you but was tame enough for the children to listen. The band was dressed like a prohibition speak-easy band and belted out tunes to match. People from the crowd got up and danced nearly the entire show.
I used my Tamron 75-300mm f/4.0 on a Canon T3i for most of the concert. I chose the lens because of its focal length (75-300). This focal range is great because it keeps your subject tight in the frame, blurs the background sufficiently, and flattens out (instead of bending) your subject of focus.
I will definitely be heading back out to Research Park for more shows and to see Davina whenever she and her Vagabonds come back through town. What did you think of Davina and The Vegabonds? Were you one of the dancers? How would you have shot this event? Did you get any great pictures? Comment below! See you next time.
