No flex…ZONE! In perhaps the most interesting pop culture phenomenon of recent memory, Rae Sremmurd has created a new form of hip-hop that has been controlling pop rap charts for a little while.

WHAT: Cash Cash, Tritonal, Gladiator, Jimmy P.

WHERE: The Canopy Club ($25 advance)

WHEN: Wednesday, October 28nd at 8 p.m.

Cash Cash and Tritonal hit Canopy Club as part of their 2015 Untouchable Tour. They’re joined on stage by Gladiator and Jimmy P. in what is sure to be an incredibly exciting evening. We could all use a little more cash in our lives, right?

WHAT: The Gothsicles, The Dead Room, Angelspit

WHEN: Thursday, October 29th at 7 p.m.

In perhaps the spookiest event happening all over town, The Gothsicles will be adding sound to the 1922 silent film Nosferatu, aptly re-naming it, Noiseferatu. Puns are something I’m down for, and I appreciate a funny one when I see it.

WHAT: Twiddle + The Werks, Flaccid

WHERE: The Canopy Club ($12 advance, $15 door)

WHEN: Thursday, October 29nd at 8 p.m.

Twiddle + The Werks are on tour right now, and naturally, their tour is named the “Twerk Tour,” which is bar-none the best name of a tour I’ve ever heard. Bloomington-Normal’s own Flaccid kick off the action – so make sure to get there early.

WHAT: Penny Horses/Waterfowl, Flamingo, Finer Feelings

WHERE: Cowboy Monkey ($5)

WHEN: Friday, October 30th at 8 p.m.

Last week, we detailed Penny Horses and Waterfowl’s album, which is due out on Friday. In support of that album, the bands are joining forces for an album release show that’s sure to be radical. Also providing support are Flamingo and Finer Feelings.

WHAT: Expressions Music and Art Showcase

WHERE: Institute 4 Creativity ($5)

WHEN: Friday, October 30th at 7 p.m.

This is perhaps the most exciting event in this week’s overture, simply because it is so unique for Champaign-Urbana. Per the Facebook event: “EXPRESSIONS is a new event showcasing multi-media art created by local underground talent with a shared theme of experimental and psychedelic expression. We plan to bring together sound & sight in a relaxed manner for a unified multi-sensory experience.”

WHAT: UI Wind Symphony

WHERE: Krannert Center for the Performing Arts ($10 public, $4 student)

WHEN: Friday, October 30th at 9:30 p.m.

From Krannert’s website: “A preeminent ensemble in the world, the UI Wind Symphony premieres new works, travels to national and international events, and sets the standard for band performance and training.” This Friday, that can be all yours. Why not, right?

In what is probably the most apt Halloween show in town all weekend, Resinater bring their special brand of hard rock to Mike N Molly’s – and you get a discounted ticket with a costume!

Peelander-Z are a sweet punk band from Japan. Bookmobile! are a sweet punk band from Champaign. Combine the two and you’ve got a very international lineup, which is precisely part of the reason Champaign-Urbana is so awesome.

Two of Champaign-Urbana’s most massive bands connect for a Halloween night that is sure to be more fun than scary. A costume contest will follow the music, so you can (and should) absolutely dress up to celebrate.

Though most would go for a typical Halloween show, Los Guapos are doing something very different – downstairs at Mike N Molly’s, they will be live-scoring Night of the Living Dead. DJ John Hoeffleur to follow.
