This past Saturday was the first StreetFest of the summer season, coordinated by the Champaign Park District. With a stage set up in the middle of Downtown Champaign, three local bands performed throughout the evening. The New and Slightly Used performed first and got the crowd going. The Jim Markum Swing Band performed next with swing music classics, including an Elvis Presley medley that many people came out and danced to.
The last band to step on stage was Sun Stereo, who took the night to a whole new level with lively, upbeat music and a backup dancer who danced with hula hoops and colorful scarves. Besides the music, there was plenty of other entertainment, including face painting, a balloon artist, a soap bubble artist and plenty food and drink stations for the whole family. And if you weren’t able to make it to the June Street Fest, don’t worry — there will be another StreetFest in Downtown Champaign on July 16th.
