In a welcoming atmosphere and high energy the kitchen, I got a taste of Japanese culture by photographing Chef Suzuko Enomoto in preperation for two main events held at the Japan House in Urbana last weekend.
Chef Suzuko Enomoto is visiting the US from Japan, and her first stop is at the Japan House. She prepared a kaiseki dinner for 20 guests last Friday. The meal featured a rare kindai tuna, a sustainably raised Japanese tuna that is very hard to find in the US. On Saturday there was a sake pairing with Japanese appetizers, again featuring kindai tuna. Both events were sold out.
The Japan House is a teaching facility on campus that shares Japanese culture through its many arts, culinary, and other events. For more information, visit its website.
