Blips and Chitz are all about dark and experimental doom music on Thursday, played by half-local and half-Chicago bands. Come get sad and happy at the same time.

The indie band Marrow are quite familiar with eclecticism; members have worked with Jeff Tweedy and toured with Chance the Rapper. The Phantom Broadcast and Matthäus both share that tendency and make indie rock with flavors of jazz, folk, and pop in the mix.

The school year has returned, and with it comes live shows at Canopy Club. Friday night will be a free set featuring a battle of two DJ’s and two decades.

Civilized Gypsy Tattoo Parlor brings you this rather metal event, featuring outfits NIL8, Roberta Sparrow, and Risky Casanovas churning out some rock, punk and metal tunes.

WHAT: Tender Mercy with Jared Grabb and Tomorrow Is Already Here

WHERE: Library House (free/donations suggested)

WHEN: Saturday, September 3rd at 7 p.m.

Kentucky’s Tender Mercy is contemplative, quiet folk/experimental music to space out to. Jared Grabb is likewise thoughtful music, but unplugged. Add local band Tomorrow is Already Here and you’ve got a nice, quiet jam night at Library House.

WHAT: The Masquerade ft. Sliink with Matthew and Indigo Child

WHERE: Canopy Club ($7 advance/$10 door)

DJ Sliink has worked with EDM mainstays like Skrillex, and was recently signed to his label. On Saturday he’ll be throwing down some sick beats to get your weekend pumping.

WHAT: Labor of Love Festival

WHERE: Independent Media Center

WHEN: Saturday, September 3rd from 1 – 11 p.m.

This stacked fundraiser will feature all sorts of musicians and artists all day on Saturday. Proceeds from this cooperative effort go to benefit the IMC and the great things they do there year round. Over a dozen different musical acts will perform for the cause and the event also serves as the kick-off for 90.1 WEFT-FM’s Fall Pledge Drive. Last Minute Fire play original country and rock music laced with covers and favorites. They’re all set to be an enjoyable easy listen at a classic watering hole.
