Zach Wade is a pretty typical 17 year-old. As a junior attending high school in Mahomet, he had been busy trying to find a job to save some money for school. But after searching around for a position and not finding anything substantive, his mother offered to start a family business that combined his love of cars and food — a mobile Belgian waffle stand. Thus Crave Truck was born, the soon to be latest addition to the C-U street food scene. And a truck many locals have been excited about since they first heard about it last fall.
Crave will offer Belgian waffles at several locations around C-U, including Urbana’s Market at the Square. The waffles will come dusted with powdered sugar, plus many toppings to choose from and gourmet, fair trade coffee.
With active Twitter and Facebook feeds, Crave Truck will be using social media for word-of-mouth marketing, including the announcement of the date and time their pre-launch party. Zach did say that the event will take place at the Tires Plus at corner of Prospect and Marketview in Champaign.
Unfortunately we didn’t get the beginning of this episode on tape, so this edition starts a few minutes into the show. In the missing portion, I asked Zach about how this all got started, and he explains he was having trouble finding a job, so his mom made him this offer.
Download the slightly truncated podcast here to learn more about Crave Truck.
In addition to discussing the Crave Truck, we also have the latest audio edition of Tracy Nectoux’s Rainbow Connection, which previews upcoming summer events.
