Saturday’s Illini Alumni event was so big, so all-encompassing, that we can’t fit it all in one story. If you couldn’t be there yourself, don’t worry. We’ve got plenty of material, enough to give you a pretty good idea of what you missed.
SP’s Matt Campbell got great footage of the scrimmages. I interviewed anybody with a mouth. Check back tomorrow for the bittersweet memories.
On the court, there was something similar to basketball. In the alumni scrimmage, Kendall Gill dominated his juniors, some half his age. Jerrance Howard stole the show, with his remarkable impersonation of a cannonball. Black, round and dangerous to anything in his path; he found his target.
After much hoopla, they got around to hooping.
Among the current Illini, Nnanna Egwu impressed, again. The rest of 2012’s team … well, it’s early.
