DeLaSalle’s Mike Shaw was just leaving the Corzine & Ubben gymnasium Thursday afternoon when the camera & microphone gang shuffled in. A newly Frohawked Mycheal Henry and a bit of adult supervision completed the band that might have made a much, much more interesting interview — and possibly answered the $64 question: Has Shaw found a collegiate home?
But the NCAA has rules, see. So I stuck with the mundane press op.
We came for the weekly staged event, a bon voyage to Tyler Griffey and Brandon Paul who’ll hop the pond with coach Jay Price for a bit of Eurostyle competition.
Here are their three more or less* entire interviews.
Jay Price
Tyler Griffey
Brandon Paul
*When Jay and Tyler began, I was trying to capture a portrait of Crandall Head. He said he needed a new picture for his Facebook page.
If you didn’t know it from previous encounters with microphones, Price is by far the most glib of the coaching staff — a quality which probably aided his recent recruiting coups. (Notice the two players accompanying Price are Price recruits.)
But Jay is not the only funny aspect of today’s interviews. Brandon playing the point, and Tyler the pivot would — in live theater — be billed as “farce.”
On the other hand, learning to play out-of-position in Europe can come in handy for a college hoopster (as Plan B).
Jack Price, Tyler Griffey and Brandon Paul are bound for the olde countrie.
Most of the print media didn’t show for this availability. It came on short notice. But Tyler and Brandon obliged the no-shows with phone interviews.
Tyler Griffey repeats his story to Chris Hine.
While waiting for the phone to ring, the two shot baskets underneath their own oversized portraits. Toy camera notwithstanding, I thought it was a great photo op.
But I never did get a good snapshot of young Head, Esq.
So here’s your portrait in oil, Crandall. Every Individual of Unique Temperament oughta have one.
