I admit that I’ve never seen an adaption of Emily Brontë’s novel that I’ve liked. They have to cut out too much of the story to fit in the two-hour timeframe. But Andrea Arnold is an Academy Award winner, and he’s being all controversial (and perhaps authentic?) with is casting, so let’s give his version a try.

Still Point and collaborations with cometogetherstudios, Indi go Artists Co-op, 7:00 p.m.
This exhibition will house works by Lisa Lofgren and Matt Erickson of comtogetherstudios in Bloomington, Illinois.
Of her prints, Lofgren says that she highlights the “instances of discovery that are calming and comforting.”
Erickson’s art will be on the ground level. He says that his show with Lofgren is a “collaboration in Love, Relationship, Art, Life or as I feel it — all the same thing.” (TN)

The What You Will Shakespeare Company is happy to invite you to its final show of the semester, William Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Shakespeare’s infamously cursed play is appropriately opposed to A Midsummer Night’s Dream in the What You Will season. By invoking three dark witches rather than fairies and focusing on ambition, betrayal, and murder, it creates not a romantic dream, but rather a hellish nightmare. The characters become so afraid of what they dream that they refuse to sleep and find that the world they once knew is now like a nightmare.
The production is directed by Patrick Harris, assisted by Celia Mueller.

The Nutcracker, Champaign Urbana Ballet, Krannert Center Tryon Festival Theatre, Friday, 7:30 p.m. | Saturday, 2:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. | Sunday, 2:00 p.m., $19+
I hardly know anyone who’s not seen this ballet, either live or on PBS, which seems to show the American Ballet’s Baryshnikov production it every year.
These days I shy away from ballet at the Krannert Center because the ones I’ve attended in the past didn’t have live music. But this year’s Nutcracker will be set to Sinfonia da Camera’s live performance of Tchaikovsky’s score. So, I’ll be at this one! (TN)
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1
You Can’t Take It With You Auditions, Parkland College Theatre, 1:00 p.m.
This Saturday, from 1:00–5:00 p.m., director Joi Hoffsommer will hold auditions for You Can’t Take It With You, the classic comedy by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman. If necessary, callbacks will be held the same evening at 7:00 p.m.
Hoffsommer will be casting 19 males and females, ages 18 and up. The audition will consist of cold readings from the script. No appointment is necessary. More information here. (MG)
Smile Politely’s 5th Anniversary Party, Mike ‘N Molly’s, starts at 5:00 p.m., music at 10 p.m.
We’re spicing things up a bit this year in comparison to our bash last year. Same great establishment, but we’re adding more toppings to the fun. The party starts at 5 p.m. with Stories and Beer, which will include involvement from the Ninth Letter as well. Readers include: Jen Percy, Roya Khatiblou, David Wright, Sal Pane, Lindsey Gates-Markel, and Ruben Quesada.
Next: the party itself. Come have a drink with us, tell us how you’re feeling about the magazine, or whether you think we’re garbage. Doesn’t matter, love or hate, we still like your input on things. Then, the music begins. Starting at 10 p.m., Common Loon will take the stage, followed by Grandkids shortly thereafter to close out the night. We’ll be around all night, having a good time and celebrating the fact that we are still in existence. Who would’ve thought? (PS)

As December rolls around, the days on our Kickstarter Campaign are passing by. If you haven’t heard by now, we’re looking to take things to another level. Give this place a facelift with a complete new redesign (we cannot wait for this), as well as help fund our brand new quarterly print magazine, Bonfire Quarterly. Yep, we’re taking that leap and venturing out of the internet and into your hands through a physical format. Some think it’s dying, and it is, but we’re taking a different approach with this, and we’re really excited about it.
